Polaris ATV Belt Drive Maintenance Tips
On behalf of Expert Village my name is Tom Roland and we're at Cottonwood Motor Sports and I'm here to tell you about doing service on a Polaris Quad and this is fairly representative of many of them. One thing that's commonly overlooked on the belt drive systems. On the Polaris belt drive system to cool them and to keep them cleaner they circulate air through them, they pull air in to the system and then the swirling action inside takes the air and swirls it through the inside cooling air and then it exhausts it too. Depending on the model, it depends on where the, where they are, here's one tube for it and here's the other tube for it. And, this is the exhaust, this is the intake and they take the air and they bring it down, it helps to keep it cool it also helps to exhaust the dust and the dirt, any dirt that might happen to work it's way inside. On some of the models they have foam up in the front of them and that foam keeps the rocks, small birds and stuff like that from getting in there. You also, you want to make sure these things are clear. Also, if a belt was to blow up inside this cover it throws little pieces everywhere and what has to happen, is you have to make sure that these ducts are clean because if these ducts aren't clean then you can put a new belt in here and you can blow it all out in here but the normal action of the unit, a lot of the broken pieces might go right back down into the belt cover again. So those that, and also if it has a screen up on the front end of it, like some units do, then you have to remove those or you can't get all the parts out of there. It'll just, you blow them up here and then they'll just come right back down. So this is all stuff that we know because we work with these units all the time. But you have to make sure that these ducts are all attended to properly.
