Summary: Drain the oil on a Polaris ATV, including a Polaris 500 X2; learn how with
tips from our expert ATV mechanic in this free ATV maintenance and repair video. |
How to Drain the Oil on a Polaris ATV On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Tom Roland and we are at Cottonwood Motor Sports and I am here to tell you about doing service on a Polaris Quad and this is fairly representative of macho, many of them. At the bottom of the Polaris, this is the oil reservoir on the Polaris and this is where you drain the oil on the oil tank. The oil tank holds approximately 2 quarts of oil and the motor holds about 1/2 quart of oil. The total capacity on the Polaris is 2 quarts. So the tank would have about a tank and half in it and the motor would have about 1/2 quart and the drain plug is on the other side. It is really hard to get to but on the bottom of the frame, there is a slot here. If you stick your fingers up to that slot, there is a drain bolt right there where my index finger is and the index finger is on the drain bolt for the motor and that drain plug has to come out to drain the last 1/2 quart of oil out of the engine when you do an oil change. So a lot of times people don't do that by accident because they don't know better but that is very important to do on a 500 Polaris. All 500 Polaris' are made the same way. |
